Ding Dong Merrily on High
Ding Dong Merrily on High, like Deck the Halls, began life as a secular dance tune, appearing in a dance book written by Jehan Tabouret (1519 -1593).
The text was written by George Ratcliffe Woodward, who wrote Past Three O’Clock, and published in 1924. It reflects his interest in bell-ringing.
This version, scored for a duet between cello and trumpet, is irresistibly merry, fast paced, and joyful, played with an exhilarating ease and mastery.
