Deck the Halls The melody belongs to a Welsh winter carol, Nos Galan, a folk dance, which was what the word ‘carol’ meant. When the church suppressed the old mid-winter pagan folk traditions and turned them into a Christian celebration, “carol’ was retained to refer to the tune, and gradually itself became associated with Christmas music, while the less respectable folk dance was quietly forgotten.

Later in its history this melody inspired Mozart and Haydn, acquired American lyrics in the 19^th century, and since then has probably been parodied more than any other carol.

This version is lighthearted, cheerful and infectiously happy; full of Christmas cheer.
